A Towson attorney says he has filed arbitration claims on behalf of 101 patients against a cardiologist accused of performing unnecessary procedures.

Attorney Jay D. Miller says he made the filings Tuesday after negotiations with St. Joseph Medical Center broke down. Miller said he is also looking into potential claims against at least one cardiologist at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. The attorney said he believes the problem of unnecessary procedures exists across the country.

The Maryland Board of Physicians, meanwhile, has filed administrative charges against Dr. Mark G. Midei, who no longer practices at St. Joseph's.
