June 12 is National Jerky Day—and what better way to celebrate than with a larger-than-life mountain of meat.
Meet 'Meat Rushmore,' a colossal interpretation of one of America’s most iconic landmarks. Jack Link’s replica of the iconic South Dakota carving stands at 13-feet tall, is 17-feet wide and is covered with more than 1,600 pounds of the company’s signature beef, pork and turkey jerky.
If all the jerky pieces used were laid out in a line, it would stretch over 5 miles. That’s a lot of meat.
The base of the sculpture was hand carved from structural foam—so don’t try to take a bite out of Washington. Each layer of jerky was then individually applied to make the mountainous tribute come to life.
This Thursday, jerky fans can celebrate their favorite snack by paying a visit to Meat Rushmore when it’s put on display in Columbus Circle in New York City. From 9 am to 6 pm, visitors can get a picture with this soon-to-be-famous sculpture and enjoy free samples of smoked meat. Or try entering a contest to win a year’s supply of Jack’s Jerky.
Last year, Jack Link’s celebrated National Jerky Day, now in its third year, with ‘Operation Sky Meat’- where 1,000 bags of jerky were showered upon residents of Nebraska from helicopters.
