Warner Bros Re-shoots ‘Gangster Squad’ Movie Theater Scene, After ‘Dark Knight’ Massacre

The tragic “Dark Knight” shooting in Aurora Coloardo is already redefining story lines and scenes in Warner Bros’ upcoming movies.

In the wake of the shooting by suspect James Holmes, which left 12 dead and 58 wounded, after Holmes opened fire to a packed audience in a movie theater seeing the midnight screening of the “Dark Knight Rises,” other films such as the thriller “Gangster Squad” are being re-written and re-filmed.

The movie, starring Michael Peña and Ryan Gosling, is axing scenes such as the one with mobsters opening fire to a crowd at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, Calif.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the gory scene in the film was set to be one of the highlights in the mobster-filled movie, set to be released Sept. 7. But now, with the recent Colorado shooting still fresh in people’s minds, “Gangster Squad” screenwriter Will Beal is already busy at work re-writing the massacre scene to be placed somewhere else and not inside a movie theater.

The low-budget flick also features actors Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Sean Penn and Emma Stone. It tells the story of the LAPD battle with the Mafia during the 1940’s and ‘50s.

The fighting scene has thugs breaking free through the silver screen at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater firing guns and shooting their way into the theaters’ lobby and then onto the street.

With much re-structure at hand for “Gangster Squad” a new release date will be set, says The Hollywood Reporter. The publication also claims Warner Bros will probably want to set some distance and time before releasing the mobbed-theme movie.

Warner Bros has kept mum when THR reached asked about its developing future projects on “Gangster Squad.”
