Luciano Pereyra is riding the high wave of his illustrious career.
The Argentinian singer – known for his fusion of folkloric sounds with sambas, waltzes, boleros and more – released his first album more than two decades ago and has gone on to collaborate with some the greatest Latin musicians of the era, including the late Juan Gabriel.
He is now nominated for the Latin Grammy Award for best contemporary pop vocal album – the second nomination to his name after "Con Alma de Pueblo" ("With the Soul of the People") received a 2012 nod as best folk album.
“I am very happy to have received such a nice recognition from the Latin Grammy,” Pereyra told Fox News Latino recently. “I am really enjoying it and look forward to getting together with so many of my colleagues.”
His nominated album, “#TuMano” (“#YourHand”), is the culmination of many years of work, learning and listening that has kept his sound fresh.
“We must change, like we change our skin,” Pereyra said. “We all grow, we all change but without changing our essence.”
He went on, “It’s always good to experience other genres and other rhythms in addition to what you are already used to, because boxing yourself into one genre would be like giving an artist one color to do a painting. It would be very boring.”
Pereyra will be at the 17th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in Las Vegas Thursday night. The show will be aired on Univision.
