UPDATE: In a press conference at the Jets' training facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, head coach Rex Ryan confirmed that his tattoo is real, and yes, that it depicts his wife wearing a Mark Sanchez jersey.

"It's a tattoo i've had for three years now," said Ryan. He then added, "I know what you're thinking: Obviously, if Sanchez doesn't play better that number is changing. I've been married 25 years and in my eyes my wife is the most beautiful woman in the world."

During the conference, Ryan also confirmed that Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine and Jets offensive cooridinator Tony Sparano will no longer be working with the organization.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Many New York Jets fans were frustrated by head coach Rex Ryan's decision to stick with quarterback Mark Sanchez through a disappointing season. Could the loyalty have had anything to do with a certain tattoo?

According to the New York Daily News, Ryan was photographed sunbathing in the Bahamas while sporting a never-before-seen tattoo depicting a likeness of his wife wearing only a Jets jersey with Mark Sanchez's number on the sleeve. Needless to say, Ryan's new ink raises some interesting questions. Is it real? And if so, what does it mean?

We may never know, as Ryan already waved off one reporter trying to get some answers. If the tattoo is real (and even if it's not), it's certainly an interesting choice. Maybe we'll hear someday.
