'The Voice' producer Mark Burnett 'thrilled' for Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton

"The Voice" producer Mark Burnett spoke about Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's relationship backstage after his show took home the Emmy for best reality competition.

"People go through peaks and valleys, lights and dark times in their lives," Burnett said. "In the case of Blake and Gwen, both have had some dark times emotionally in their relationships. They had no idea by coming to work on a fun music show that they would find the  loves of their life. They are happier than you can imagine and we are all thrilled to be their friends and see the happiness."

Burnett also took the opportunity to fire back at Emmys host Jimmy Kimmel who blamed him for Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

"I'm sure Donald was emailing Jimmy Kimmel saying thanks for the free publicity."

Burnett helped make Trump a TV star with his "Apprentice" franchise.

Kimmel blamed Burnett for Trump and the status of the presidential election in his opening monologue

“Many have asked who’s to blame for Donald Trump and I’ll tell you who, he's sitting right there, that guy – Mark Burnett,” Kimmel said. “Thanks to Mark Burnett we don’t have to watch reality shows anymore , we’re living in one.”

Season 11 of "The Voice" returns tomorrow night on NBC.
