Nobody is going to be charged for stealing Lupita Nyong’o’s $150,000 pearl-studded Oscar dress, after all. Authorities have dropped the case.
According to the New York Post's Page Six, the dress’ designer Calvin Klein declined to pursue charges.
“Manufactures have taken possession of the dress and are non-desirous of prosecutor,” a spokesperson said. “The case has been closed.”
The gown was reported missing from Nyong’o’s room at the London West Hollywood hotel just days after the 87th annual Academy Awards last week. The “12 Years a Slave” actress was not in the room when it was taken.
Authorities recovered the dress after a person claiming to have taken it gave TMZ information about where to find it.
Detectives found it in a black garment bag stashed underneath a bathroom counter in the hotel.
In a statement to Women’s Wear Daily, Nyong’o said, “I’m happy that it has been potentially recovered. It’s a timeless and priceless piece of art.”
According to reports, the white gown was adored with more than 6,000 pearls of various sizes and shapes.
