Ryan Adams is covering all of Taylor Swift’s platinum 2014 album 1989, and the alt rocker has finally released the first full song from the much-anticipated project.
Adams' cover of "Bad Blood" -- which turns the high-octane anthem into a dreamy, guitar-driven track -- made its worldwide debut on Zane Lowe’s Apple’s Beats 1 radio show on Thursday and it’s pretty incredible. The singer maintains Swift’s words and melodies, while adding his own signature style to the track about contentious friendships.
On Monday, Lowe will be interviewing Adams about the album, along with a "special guest" via phone. Perhaps T.Swift will be joining to give the album her blessing? She’s already tweeted her excitement for the album’s release.
"Ryan's music helped shape my songwriting," Swift tweeted Thursday along with a countdown to the album’s release. "This is surreal and dreamlike."
The singer was totally flattered when Adams announced the project in early August, tweeting, "Cool I'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight or ever again and I'm going to celebrate today every year as a holiday."
In addition to "Bad Blood," Adams has also tweeted several previews of some of the album’s other tracks as they were in progress in the studio.
The digital 1989 album will be available for download on Sept. 21. Pre-ordering begins Thursday night at 9 p.m PT on Apple Music.
