Rita Moreno to lend her voice to new animated TV show

Veteran, multitalented actress Rita Moreno is heading to TV in a new animated show next year.

The EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) winner will lend her voice to “Nina’s World,” a new children’s show slated to debut in 2015 on NBC Universal’s Sprout network, according to Variety.

Moreno, who was the first Hispanic woman to ever win an Academy Award for her performance as Anita on “West Side Story,” will voice Abuelita, the grandmother of the show’s title character that will help her grandchild navigate childhood and learn about her culture.

“Nina’s World” is a spin-off of sorts to Sprout’s “The Good Night School.”

“Rita Moreno is a living legend, and it’s fantastic to welcome her to Sprout’s family,” said network president Sandy Wax in a statement. “We know that she will bring her character to life as no one else could – she embodies all of the spirit and energy that Abuelita brings to Nina’s World while maintaining an authenticity to the character’s Hispanic background.”

Newcomer Isabella Farrier will voice the role of young Nina and Michele Lepe will voice her mother.
