How liberal protesters are trying to silence the right
Protesters work to shut down Trump events
Freedom of speech has come up on the campaign trail and in one of the most unforeseen ways. After protesters shut down Donald Trump’s rally in Chicago Friday night, the topic among political pundits shifted to asking ‘Was Donald Trump denied freedom of speech?’ On FOX & Friends this morning, Judge Andrew Napolitano broke down just what constitutional rights, if any, were violated.
A delicate line between the right to protest and freedom of expression had to be balanced, ultimately resulting in Trump “postponing” his rally. By law, a lessee of a government owned building can’t prevent anyone from entering or remaining strictly based on their views. However, police are permitted to use ‘reasonable force’ against anyone preventing the lessee from using the facility for its intended use.
In the days following the protest, 4 people have been arrested on various charges. Trump has called for punishment against those who disrupt his political gatherings.
