Marc Anthony, Prince Royce, Romeo Santos Lead Latin Billboard Nominations

Latin stars Marc Anthony, Prince Royce and Romeo Santos have set up a tight race at this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, leading the nominations with double digits.

Bachata star Santos, who is fresh off of a No. 1 debut on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart with new single “Odio” featuring Drake, leads the race with 17 nominations in 14 categories. (Yes the math is correct, several collaborations with other artists actually compete with his own songs).

Among his many nominations, Santos is vying for artist, songwriter, tropical album and producer of year, coming off early success from singles of his yet to be released sophomore solo set, “Formula Vol. 2,” due out Feb. 25.

New Yorker Royce received 16 nominations in 15 categories including artist, social artist and hot Latin songs artist of the year, as well as top Latin album of the year.

Anthony, salsa singer and fellow New Yorker, is up for 15 awards including artist of the year, tour of the year, hot Lain songs artist of the year and top Latin album artist of the year. His strong showing comes in the wake of his successful salsa album “3.0” and its hit single “Vivir Mi Vida.”

The late Jenni Rivera, whose albums dominated sales in the year after her death, is up for eight awards, while rapper Daddy Yankee and pop singer Enrique Iglesias are up for seven awards each.

Mexican crooner Alejandro Fernandez and La Arrolladora Banda El Limon de Rene Camacho are up for six awards each.

Other finalists include Alexis y Fido, Don Omar, Wisin & Yandel, Christina Aguilera, Andrea Bocelli, Thalia, Carlos Vives and among many others.

The Billboard Latin Music awards honor the most popular albums, songs and performers, determined by Billboard’s weekly charts during a one-year period. The award show will be broadcast live April 24 on Telemundo.
