Mandy Moore and her husband of six years Ryan Adams filed for divorce back in January, but the actress told FOX411 she is doing “fantastic” now that she has a new project to focus on.

She said her upcoming NBC series, “This is Us,” came at the right time for her.

“It’s tough,” she said. “Life is not easy. I think it’s been great to be able to take all of the chapters of my life and pour it into a job like this because it all helps. It’s all fuel.”

She said it has helped to focus on herself for a change.

“I think everything happens for a reason, and I think I spent a good portion of the last years of my life really pouring all of my energy into my life and relationship and now that that is sort of not part of my life anymore, it’s just not a coincidence that things sort of open back up, and I am able to focus back on myself again.”

The 32-year-old told reporters she misses music “a lot” but now is at a creative place in her life again.

“I just think life sort of put it on the back burner. I think this has always been—acting and being in films and trying to do television has always been — a huge priority for me, and it was the thing the ball was rolling the most with. I feel like it continued to give me way more opportunities than music did. So now that I feel again that this part of my life is percolating and up and running again it will allow me creatively to focus again back on the music.”

And though she hasn’t come out with an album in recent years, Moore revealed she has been writing songs for a long time.

“I’ve been writing for the last seven years since I put out a record, so I have a trough of music to choose from,” she said. “I also still feel like a lot has happened in the last two years of my life that I want to be able to put into music. It will be cathartic.

“This is Us” premieres September 20th on NBC.
