Justin Bieber is quite protective of his girlfriend, singer/actress Selena Gomez.

Los Angeles Police are looking for witnesses in an altercation between Bieber and a photographer, who claims he was roughed up by the teen pop star last Sunday after trying to snap a photo of the young couple. The photographer called 911 and said he was experiencing chest pains.

A police captain told the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department that they were looking for people who saw what happened. They also plan to question Bieber, who has not given his side of the story, the paper said.

"We would like to talk to all potential witnesses," Capt. Mike Parker told the newspaper.

The couple was walking out of theater at The Common at Calabasas when the lensman tried to take a photo of them. According to TMZ, “some sort of physical altercation erupted.”

The star couple had left by the time police arrived.

The photographer complained of pain and was taken by the Los Angeles County Fire Department to a hospital, where he was treated and released, officials said.

Witnesses told TMZ that the photographer was blocking Bieber’s car as the singer was trying to leave. The singer, TMZ reporter, asked the photographer to move away but he refused to budge – triggering the scuffle.

A source told the LA Times that the investigation was ongoing, but in its early stages.

Gomez is shooting a film called “Spring Breakers” with fellow Disney star Vanessa Hudgens in Florida.

E! News reports that the movie is about four girls in college who decide to hold up a restaurant in the hopes of getting enough cash to go on a trip to the beach.
