Jennifer Lopez: American Idol's Focus Is Where It's Supposed To Be

Jennifer Lopez is thrilled to return to the panel of "American Idol," mostly, she said, because the focus of the show is back where it’s supposed to be: the contestants.

“It makes me feel good that there’s good feelings about ‘American Idol’,” Lopez said, “because the show’s a great show and the focus is back where it’s supposed to be — on the show and contestants and tuning in for some great entertainment, a few laughs and the emotion that comes along with that ride and that journey.”

According to People magazine, the Puerto Rican singer-actress was talking at a press conference Wednesday in Boston, where she appeared alongside fellow judges, newbie Harry Connick Jr. and veteran Keith Urban, on the first stop of season 13.

“I love this show and I am glad to be back. Last year I went off and toured the whole world for the first time. It wasn’t the easiest thing to fit in this season of "Idol", but I love it so much … I did miss it,” Lopez said according to People.

Fox network confirmed this week that Lopez and Connick Jr. would be joining Urban for the show’s 13th season, ending months of speculations and rumors. Urban’s return to the fold was announced last month by Fox Chairman Kevin Reilly.

“Idol” producers are betting the trio will fare better than season 12, which had Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj sitting next to Urban.

But Lopez said she is not concerned about the ratings.

“I don’t think about that kind of stuff so much. I leave that worry to other people – I have enough worry of my own,” she said.

Original judge Jackson, who exited along with Carey and Minaj at the end of last season, will be back as an in-house mentor to the contestants.

Other “Idol” stops include Atlanta; Austin, Texas; Detroit; Omaha, Neb.; Salt Lake City and San Francisco. The show returns to the air in January.
