Pop princess Hilary Duff has recalled the time reality star Sophie Monk appeared out of no where and saved her following a car accident in Los Angeles.

The 26-year-old singer and actor is in Australia for a promotional tour and today recorded an interview 2DayFM breakfast’s show.

In the chat with Monk, Jules Lund and Merrick Watts, which will air tomorrow, Duff explains the bizarre day she was involved in a hit-and-run.

“I had a car accident and Sophie comes out of nowhere, on a rainy day in LA, like an angel,” Duff said.

“This girl hit me, she rear-ended me, and tried to run. And Sophie took her (own) car and blocked her off.

“I’m like ‘Sophie?’ and she’s like, 'Oh my God, Hilary!'"

Monk had witnessed the accident and stopped the guilty party from fleeing the scene, taking down the car’s license plate.

The singer, who was star of the "Lizzie McGuire" television series and subsequent films, admitted she didn't have the best driving history.

She was sued for a 2010 car accident in which she was accused of crashing her Range Rover into another car and causing injury.

"I've had a few (accidents), mostly with my own house though. So that's a good thing, it's always best when there is only one person involved.

"I've hit my garage a few times. Sometimes I’ve pulled in too tight. I’ve always had a big car so I've pulled in and scratched it, things like that."

Monk and Duff met almost a decade ago and were each dating one of the Madden brothers at the same time.

The interview provided a brief opportunity to reminisce on the experience of being with rocker twin brothers Joel and Benji.

"We were dating twins. Does that mean we're part of some weird sisterhood or something?" Duff joked.

"She (Sophie) was always cool when I wanted to trade (twins)."
