A high school student’s dream came true this weekend.

Jessica Casanova, a high school senior in Buffalo, New York, wore a black dress to her Charter School for Applied Technologies prom that was given to her by "Jane the Virgin" actress Gina Rodriguez.

Casanova had her Hollywood experience when she wore the strapless Badgley Mischka gown Rodriguez wore the night she snagged her first Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. How she came to have the dress is a story worthy of a film, involving messages back and forth between a television star and a die-hard fan.

“Gina's dress made me feel like a princess, and it gave me chills knowing that it was something that came from her heart, and I cherish that very much,” Casanova told E! News. “I wish I could give her a big hug and tell her how much I love her. She will always have a special place in my heart.”

The prom story started back in January when Casanova tweeted the “Jane the Virgin” actress expressing the desire to wear one of her red carpet gowns to prom.

The high school student may not have expected a response for the actress, but she got one.

“Where do you live? I only own my first Globes dress, the one from last year ... maybe we can make this happen,” she wrote on Twitter. “Let's talk about it. I'm reaching out.”

It all snowballed from there.

“I feel very proud, you know,” Michelle Martinez, Casanova’s mother, told the Buffalo News about her daughter's special night. “She deserves it.”

Nathan Cohen, Casanova's prom date, was suitably impressed, too. “Beautiful,” he told the newspaper on seeing her in the dress. “Stunning.”

“There are not enough words I could possibly say to show her what [Rodriguez] has done,” Casanova told E! News. “Thanks to her, I will never forget my night.”
