Lin-Manuel Miranda says he is not as nervous or under pressure to deliver wins at Sunday night’s Tony Awards this time around as he was in 2008 with “In the Heights.”

During an exchange with James Corden on his famed web series “Carpool Karaoke,” the playwright and star of the Broadway megahit “Hamilton” said he knew that “In the Heights” needed to win big at the Tonys to stay on the Great White Way for a while.

“We won but we were all unknown, the show was in an unknown quantity. We knew we needed to win stuff in order to run,” Miranda said. “So I was really nervous. I was excited but I was nervous.”

He added: “’Hamilton’ is selling fine” – an understatement as it rakes in $1.8 million a week – “so I don’t feel that kind of pressure. It’s just like ‘Oh we get to be in a building with our friends from all the other shows.”

Corden, who is hosting the Tony Awards on Sunday night, used his “Carpool Karaoke” segment to honor Broadway. With him in the care were Miranda, actresses Audra McDonald and Jane Krakowski and actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson (also known for “Modern Family”).

During the 11-minute clip, they belted out some Broadway favorites including “Alexander Hamilton” and the speedy rap “Guns and Ships,” the emotional “Seasons of Love” from “Rent” and “One Day More” from “Les Miserables.”

The Tony Awards will air live Sunday on CBS at 8 p.m. Miranda’s “Hamilton” is expected to be a big winner after nabbing a record 16 nominations, including best actor for the playwright and best musical.
