The whirlwind year for Gina Rodriguez was not capped off with an Emmy Award nomination.
The 30-year-old “Jane the Virgin” actress was snubbed for the 67th Emmy Award nominations, announced Thursday morning.
Rodriguez, who won a Golden Globe earlier this year for her leading role on The CW’s hit show, was left out the list of lead actress in a comedy role category.
The nominations instead went to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Edie Falco, Lisa Judrow, Amy Poehler, Amy Schumer and Lily Tomlin.
Had she been nominated – or taken the prize – Rodriguez would have been the 9th Latin actor and only the third woman behind Rita Moreno and America Ferrera to win an Emmy.
The only Latino to be nominated in an acting category this year is Louis C.K. for “Louie.” The already Emmy-winner, who is half Mexican, will go up against Anthony Anderson, Matt LeBlanc, Don Cheadle, Will Forte, Television William H. Macy, and Jeffrey Tambor.
Anthony Mendez was nominated for his role as the narrator on “Jane the Virgin” — the hit show’s only nomination.
Despite her Emmy snub, Rodriguez told Fox News Latino recently that since “Jane” premiered to rave reviews last year, it’s been “a roller coaster of blessings.”
She told FNL the praise and accolades have been icing on the cake, but what really matters to her is that her work on the show translates to the viewers and inspires young girls to dream and be comfortable in their skin.
“I love that I help others smile and see them accomplish their goals,” she said.
Rodriguez said she is writing a book compiling the words of advice and encouragement bestowed upon her by her father, a boxing referee, years ago.
“My dad is an exceptional human being. He is such a powerful man whose words through times of fear and insecurity have been a narrative in my head,” she said. “It’s very difficult to be the person looking at a closed door and say, ‘Look for the window’ (without) have someone reminding you.”
She said not everyone has a person like her father, “who beats you over the head with positivity,” and she wants to make sure people have that from her.
“It’s very powerful,” Rodriguez said.
The book is slated to be released next year, so in the meantime Rodriguez is focusing on season 2 of “Jane the Virgin.” When asked about the season finale – which saw Jane’s baby being taken away from her at the hospital – the actress said she doesn’t know where the story will go.
“I know nothing. The writers won’t tell me anything,” she said.
The Emmy ceremony will air Sept. 20 on Fox with Andy Samberg as host.
