Nude photo leak: Who’s naked, who’s not?
Some celebs admit they were hacked while others scream ‘That’s not me!’
A St. Petersburg, Fla., art gallery has canceled its plans to put nude pictures of Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton on display.
The Cory Allen Contemporary Art Showroom announced on Monday that its "No Delete" exhibit, which gained national attention last week following an announcement that hacked of the A-Listers would be part of its show, will no longer include the controversial stolen photos.
“It was inspiring to see people take action through a petition, signing their name and not just commenting on a thread,” Cory Allen said of the decision to not include the celebrity photos.
Artist XVALA said the intense reaction led him to reconsider including the hacked images in his show.
“People were identifying with Jennifer Lawrence’s and Kate Upton’s victimization, much more than I had anticipated, which is powerfully persuasive," he said.
Last week, Allen assured FOX411 XVALA was not worried about the legal action that could be taken against him for exhibiting the photos.
Reps for Lawrence and Upton have been adamant that they have legal ramifications planned for anyone who spreads the photos around.
"I think if [the artist] was really concerned and too worried about the legality side of it, it would challenge the integrity of the art," Allen said at the time.
Instead of featuring the photos of Lawrence and Upton, XVALA has opted to turn the camera around and snap nude selfies to include in the show.
"This concept was always about self-examination in our current culture," he explained.
This isn’t the first time artist XVALA has caused controversy by using celebrity images in his art work. In 2007, he used the memorable photo of Britney Spears shaving her head as part of an exhibit and in 2011 he plastered Scarlett Johansson’s leaked nude pictures around Los Angeles with the words “Fear Google” covering her body.
Reps for Lawrence and Upton did not return FOX411’s request for comment about the exhibit.
