Ellen Degeneres nearly missed out on receiving her Presidential Medal of Freedom Tuesday after she forgot to bring identification.

The talk show host tweeted a picture of herself waiting on a bench outside of the White House.

"They haven't let me in to the White House yet because I forgot my ID," she tweeted, adding that she wasn't joking.

She managed to make her way in just over an hour later. She proved it by sharing a video of herself alongside the other recipients, including celebrities like Robert De Niro, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen and Robert Redford.

Degeneres was among 21 recipients who are set to receive the honor.

"In 1997, after coming out herself, Degeneres made TV history when her character on 'Ellen' revealed she was a lesbian," the White House said in a statement. "In her work and in her life, she has been a passionate advocate for equality and fairness."
