DWTS: Hollywood Night Not Enough To Save Fan Favorite Bill Nye

It was a night of mostly high scores in Monday night’s Hollywood-theme “Dancing With the Stars.”

And in a bizarre elimination, three couples were in jeopardy of going home – singer Christina Milian and Mark Ballas, actor Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd and fan favorite Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein.

The first two couples were a surprise, getting high scores for the evening – Milian/Ballas with 26 out of 30 possible points and Daugherty/Murgatroyd with the highest score of the night with 27 out of 30 points.

But they were able breathe a sigh of relief when host Tom Bergeron told them fan voters brought them back for at least one more week. Nye and Stecklein went home following a fun, but low-scoring 16-point futuristic jazz number to Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.”

“There are people here working so hard who are so good, that are improving every week,” Nye said. “I’m not going to be able to keep up with that.”

He continued: “What breaks my heart is that Tyne will (be going home). She’s fantastic.”

While a bummer for Nye, the dances Monday night were fantastic and worth highlighting.

Actress Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy danced a foxtrot that, though with small hiccup in the middle, was deemed mostly “flawless.” Inaba said "it was a thrill to watch them dance.” They got 25 out of 30.

Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff danced a quickstep to “Zoot Zoot Riot” that judge Bruno Tonioli said it “is one for the record books.” He said stylistically it was very impressive and very fast. Carrie Ann Inaba said the couple nailed the footwork. They scored a 26 out of 30 points.

Most improved of the week were previous low scorer Bill Engall, who stepped up his game and produced a paso doble that was a hit with the judges and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi who stopped at nothing to get a 9 from Inaba – she even did a one-handed cartwheel.

“Dancing With The Stars” returns Monday on ABC at 8 p.m.
