Despite Assurances From Producers, Bono Remains Unconvinced About 'Spider-Man' Musical's Opening

Producers for the accident-prone "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark"  promise that the musical will open Tuesday in it's record-breaking sixth scheduled opening.

But the show’s composers, U2’s Bono and the The Edge, are not confident that the much-delayed musical will be finished for opening night.

"There is still a little ways to go. I would say we are 10 percent off," Bono said Monday night at the 92nd Street YMCA in Manhattan. "I think that in the next weeks and months there will be another shift."

At the event, the two musicians praised original director, Julie Taymor, who is expected to attend opening night.

"I miss her," said Bono. "I think she's an extraordinary artist but we had to make it work… We're very serious about what we do. We feel it is our duty to her to make sure it is a success."

After a whopping $70 million dollars were spent on the musical, a lot of pressure has been placed on the entire cast and crew to deliver a spectacular show.

Producers were angered when critics from The Hollywood Reporter published a review several hours before the 10 p.m. EST embargo.

"Everyone in this production has waited a very long time to get to this point, and it is incredibly disrespectful that certain members of the media won't wait a few more hours to post their reviews. We trust that no other outlets will stoop so low," said the producers in a statement.

Celebrities expected to attend include former President Bill Clinton, Matt Damon, Robert De Niro, Barbara Walters, Steve Martin, Liv Tyler, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Liam Neeson, Vanessa Redgrave, Spike Lee, Christy Turlington, Ed Burns, Andrew Lloyd Webber, The Strokes and John McEnroe.
