Argentina was the country of the hour Tuesday night on Dancing With the Stars as last year’s defending Mirror Ball trophy champion Karina Smirnoff and colleague Jose Manuel Carreno took to the dance floor.
Smirnoff and Carreno delivered a solid and passionate tango. Smirnoff donned a fire red short ensemble, which highlighted every curve on her body and her toned abs.
The steamy dance also gave an opportunity for a muscial group called Gotan Project to be seen by American viewers for the first time. The Paris-based musical group, which includes Argentine musician Eduardo Makaroff, performed their modern take on the Tango.
Besides her Tango performance, Smirnoff and the rest of the DWTS competitors opened up about the extremely high expectations this season.
“I've been on this show 13 seasons but it’s harder because of William's natural dancing ability,” Cuban actor William Levy’s dance partner Cheryl Burke said.
The rest agreed with Burke, explaining how most of the contestants this time around are learning their routines in one day, which was unheard of with celebrities in previous seasons. That was making the competition much more fierce.
“You don’t know when you’ll go home,” said TV host Maria Menounos’ dance partner, Derek Hough.
NFL hunk Donald Driver’s dance partner Peta Murgatroyd said sometimes the dancing experts hope for the wrong thing when learning about the celebrity that they will compete with during the season.
“People always say you want someone you want to get along with,” Murgatroyd said on DWTS Tuesday night. “But, you want someone you can dance [with.]”
The celebrities from Dancing With the Stars Live in Las Vegas also stopped by and performed. The new spinoff to DWTS will take place at the Tropicana club next week and includes former 'N Sync band member Joey Fatone and Disney star Marc Warren.
