Feds deny permit for Dakota Access Pipeline

On Sunday celebrities and environmental activists celebrated the news that the Dakota Access Pipeline had been sent back to the drawing board.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it won't allow an easement for the Dakota Access oil pipeline in southern North Dakota. The Standing Rock Sioux tribe had argued the project was going to threaten the tribe’s cultural sites and water source.

Assistant Secretary for Civil Works Jo-Ellen Darcy said her decision was based on the need to "explore alternate routes" for the pipeline's crossing.

The announcement was a major win for many celeb activists, some of whom participated in protests opposing the pipeline. In early October Shailene Woodley was arrested and accused of trespassing during a protest in North Dakota. She documented her protesting by posting several videos to her Facebook.
