The day after Osama bin Laden was killed by SEAL Team Six, Brian Williams bragged on NBC’s “Nightly News” that he’d flown with commandos from the same elite squad during the Iraq War.
He’s also claimed they thoughtfully sent him a token from the daring attack on bin Laden’s lair — a piece of an aircraft.
But a former SEAL on Thursday said no reporters have ever been embedded with the Navy’s SEAL Team Six.
“There’s a healthy dislike towards embedded journalists within the SEAL community,” Brandon Webb, who helped train “American Sniper” Chris Kyle, told the Huffington Post.
“I can’t even remember an embed with a SEAL unit. And especially at SEAL Team Six? Those guys don’t take journalists with them on missions.”
The ex-sniper instructor and best-selling author also blasted holes in Williams’ story of getting a piece of metal from a high-tech chopper used to infiltrate bin Laden’s hideout in Pakistan in 2011.
“It seems very strange that professional operators are going to take a souvenir off a classified stealth helicopter and then send it to Brian Williams,” Webb said.
NBC on Tuesday suspended Williams for six months without pay over his lies about being aboard an Army helicopter that was hit by enemy fire during the Iraq War in 2003.
