Lazaro Arbos is certainly one lucky man.

The 21-year-old singer, who wowed with his smooth vocals despite growing up with a severe stuttering problem, made the top three Thursday night on “American Idol,” even after forgetting his lyrics during his performance the previous evening.

That left Burnell Taylor and Janelle Arthur in the bottom two.

Legendary singer Mariah Carey was brought to tears with Taylor’s survival performance of “Ready For Love." Although he sang for his life and nailed it, it was too little too late because the judges decided not to use the only save of the season on Taylor. He did end up getting a standing ovation from the judges for his performance.

The shocking elimination, based on the viewer’s votes, came as a shock for the audience as well as the judges since “American Idol” producer and music mogul Jimmy Iovine had predicted that Arbos would be the one going home packing.

Besides the unexpected elimination, “American Idol” alum Carrie Underwood took stage and performed her song “See You Again.”

Underwood then got emotional as she reminisced about her journey on the singing competition and her dreams of becoming an international superstar.

“Of course I have such love for this show,” Underwood said. "I’m gonna cry!"
