New York City police officers who don’t wear coronavirus masks should face “penalties,” according to Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Officials have identified nine neighborhoods where there is less compliance with wearing face coverings and keeping 6 feet apart compared to other parts of the city.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo threatened to slash state funding if New York City does not increase efforts to tamp down on crime and clean up the city's trash in the midst of a pandemic, even offering to send in the National Guard to help.

Mayor Bill de Blasio was side-swiped by an electric scooter in Lower Manhattan on Monday — but escaped the debacle without injury, The Post has learned. The mayor was walking along the crosswalk at Pearl Street and Water Street around 10:15 a.m. when a man on an e-scooter ran into his arm, sources said.

Wednesday's announcement comes after de Blasio said that his entire office, including the mayor himself, will be furloughed for a week to help offset losses and fight the city's budget crisis.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) head Andrew Wheeler threatened to move the agency's offices out of the city and state of New York on Tuesday, in response to what little is being done to curb recent riots and violent protesting. 

Since the beginning of the year, de Blasio has been working to try and find a solution to the $9 billion coronavirus-related revenue loss facing the nation’s biggest city. He has repeatedly stressed that he is doing so with little help from the federal government.
