Sheriff's officials say they've arrested a driver who fled after hitting three children after they got off a school bus in central Florida.

Polk County Sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Horstman said in a news release that two of the children were critically injured when the car hit them on Thursday afternoon. She says the suspect also hit another car before being arrested by an off-duty sheriff's deputy who lives in the area.

Horstman says the school bus already had left the area when the children were hit.

Officials haven't released the names of the children or the suspect.

Horstman says the suspect faces multiple charges including DUI with serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and reckless driving.

No further details were immediately available.
