A third teenager has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy during a gun battle investigators say escalated from a social media dispute.

A Miami-Dade police report released Friday says the 16-year-old boy was held on murder and attempted murder charges in the killing of first-grader King Carter. Two other young people — 18-year-old Leonard Adams and a 17-year-old boy — are jailed without bail on the same charges. They have not yet entered pleas.

Police released names of all three suspects, but The Associated Press generally does not identify juveniles charged with crimes.

Authorities say Carter was an innocent bystander shot in an exchange of gunfire Saturday at his apartment complex.

The boy's killing sparked community outrage and anti-violence marches and meetings.
