Police in New York City say a uniformed officer shot and killed an 86-year-old man after he refused to drop his gun.

They say two officers responded to a 911 call of a family dispute at a home in Queens on Saturday after a caller said he'd shot his daughter.

Police say the gunman refused to drop his weapon, then pointed it at the officers. One of the officers then shot him in the torso. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say a loaded 12-gauge shotgun was recovered at the scene.

They say a 65-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the head was found in the kitchen. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Their names weren't immediately released. A dog also sustained injuries.
