The defending-champion Los Angeles Kings retained a key member of their offense on Sunday, signing unrestricted free agent forward Dustin Penner to a one-year deal worth $3.25 million.

The 29-year-old Manitoba native had a lackluster regular season, tallying seven goals and 17 points in 65 games with a minus-seven rating. He missed time from mid-November to early December with a hand injury.

However, he helped the franchise take its first Stanley Cup by totaling 11 points in 20 postseason appearances.

In 489 games with Anaheim, Edmonton and Los Angeles, Penner has racked up 135 goals and 126 assists with 306 penalty minutes. He has also contributed 10 scores and 30 points in 60 playoff tilts.
