‘DWTS:’ Gymnast Nastia Liukin leaps over competition

LOS ANGELES – Celebrities danced to their favorite songs on the “My Jam Monday” episode of “Dancing with the Stars,” but in the first elimination show of the season, it was a singer who went home.

Last night, LMFAO musician Redfoo was sent packing—while gymnast Nastia Liukin leaped in front of the competition with the top score of the night.

But in the emotional high point of the show, double amputee war veteran Noah Galloway’s fiancée, Jamie, who is in military basic training, surprised him by suddenly showing up backstage.

Viewers saw their hug and tear-filled reunion and while Galloway left the backstage area quickly so he could spend time with Jamie, his pro dance partner Sharna Burgess told FOX411, “He said that he couldn’t believe Jamie was in front of him. It didn’t feel real when he was looking at her. Then she jumped on him and hugged him and he never wanted to let her go.”

Galloway, who received a score of 27 out of 40 for his samba with Burgess, will perform with a prosthetic left arm for the first time next week on “DWTS”—and his girlfriend should be in the audience to see it, as Jamie graduates from basic training this Thursday.

Meanwhile, Monday night wasn’t happy for Redfoo, who wound up in the bottom two with Suzanne Somers. Then the wild-haired LMFAO singer was kicked off by a narrow margin based on the judges’ scores and viewer votes from last week.

Although Redfoo rebounded with a good second week jive to the tune “My Sharona,” he had previously received the lowest score (tied with model Charlotte McKinney) on the show’s March 16 premiere. He apparently couldn’t get past the dud debut.

Still, his “DWTS” co-star Riker Lynch told FOX411 about the elimination, “I was so shocked. It’s still not fully sunken in. I love that guy.”

And “Hunger Games” star Willow Shields was “sad” to see Redfoo, the son of Motown music mogul Berry Gordy Jr., leave the show.

But the show MUST go on and it certainly will for Liukin, the gold medal winning gymnast who earned 34 out of 40 for her rumba with partner Derek Hough, including nines from two judges.

Liukin said backstage, “It was awesome. This week was really not just learning the choreography and the dance but really trying to bring out that emotion which I’m not used to doing as a gymnast so it was kind of hard.”

Rumer Willis also continued to impress on DWTS, as the judges rewarded her cha cha with Val Chmerkovskiy (set cleverly to Adele’s song “Rumour Has It”) with a big score of 32 out of 40.

“I’m excited. I’m ready for next week. I want to keep working hard. I love being out on that stage,” Willis said.

Former “Three’s Company” star Somers, who danced the jive with partner Tony Dovolani and staved off elimination, told FOX411, “I thought we rocked it. We had fun. We were dancing. We weren’t counting.”

Somers, 68, who boogied to Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” laughed about their prop, “I just didn’t want to fall off the piano.”

Bachelor Chris Soules, however, said he was disappointed in his performance of the cha cha with partner Witney Carson: “I don’t know what happened. Honestly, I got out there and…the footwork…was gone,” he sighed. Soules only got 21 out of 40 points.
