Demi Lovato and "Sonny With a Chance," are parting ways.

The star told People Magazine that returning to the Disney show, which brought her fame and recognition, would not be “healthy for my recovery.”

Nevertheless, Lovato and Disney will continue working together, but her main focus will now be her music career. She will continue recording under Disney's label Hollywood Records.

The 18-year-old entered a treatment facility for three months last year to deal with "emotional and physical issues." She reportedly had an eating disorder and suffered from self mutilation.

In a statement Tuesday, Disney Channel said it respects Lovato's decision to focus on her music and "not immediately" return to acting. "Sonny" will continue airing as a spin-off titled "So Random," with the original show's cast -- minus Lovato -- and musical acts, Disney said.

Disney also said it would support Lovato while she works to "improve her health and bounce back from adversity."
