With an enthusiastic smile, Mexican boxer Victor Ortiz took to the dance floor during his debut on “Dancing With the Stars” Monday night.

Doing the fox trot to Maroon Five’s hit single, “Daylight,” Ortiz showed off his Latino charm while performing with partner Lindsay Arnold.

While Ortiz “definitely” wants to win the completion, he said “at this point in time, I’m just here to have a lot of fun with everybody.”

Despite cheers from the crowd, judges gave him mixed reviews – he got a score of 6 out of 10.

Judge Bruno Tonioli loved Ortiz’s combination of “boyish charm and Latino passion,” but added that he has a lot of work to do.

The Simon Cowell of "Dancing With the Stars," judge Len Goodman, seemed unimpressed.

“There’s a lot of things going for him, but it was uneventful,” he said.

Prior to joining the reality dancing competition, the Mexican champion boxer promised his fans this did not mean the end of his career in the ring.

“And no I am not quitting boxing,” Ortiz posted on Twitter when the announcement was made he’d be joining the cast.

“Just decided to kick some butt on the dance floor while my jaw fully heals. Gotta stay competitive!”

The first contestants will be voted off next week.
