Telling young children where babies come from can be one of the most awkward conversations for any parent – including Ricky Martin.

The Puerto Rican singer shocked the world in 2008 when he announced he would be the father of twin boys, Valentino and Matteo, through a surrogate.

While he has not said where they were born or revealed the mother’s identity, Martin revealed that his sons have already been asking from where they came.

“’Papa was I in your belly?’ and I tell him: ‘You were in my heart and you are still in my heart,’” Martin said during an appearance on Univision radio’s “Enrique Santos Show” promoting his new single “Adios” (“Good-Bye”).

But he said he couldn’t just leave it there.

“There is a woman who I adore with all my heart who helped me bring you to this world and she lent me her belly so that you could come and when you were born, she put you in my arms” the singer said he told his son. “He then said ‘oh ok’ and continued playing.’”

The 42-year-old singer also spoke about his recent comments about wanting to add a girl to his growing family. Martin said his comments were misinterpreted, saying he hopes to have a daughter, but that the process has not begun.
