“The Bold And The Beautiful” Gets Its First Mexican Actor

Even though the soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful” has been around for 26 years, it has never featured a Mexican actor – until now.

Andrés Zuno was recently cast by the legendary CBS show to play the part of Rafael, a young man who dreams of producing a web series.

“I’m the first Mexican to star in an American soap and it feels great,” Zuno said, as quoted by Latin Times. "I’m very happy and excited and I’m glad that I can finally break the Latino stereotype because my character has nothing to do with that.”

According to Latin Times, Zuno had to audition several times until he finally got the part.

“Soaps in the United States are very tight and closed, it’s an established community, and it’s wonderful that there was this space for me,” Zuno said. “It’s not an easy industry, it’s not as broad as the movies. It was a hard process to go through, but I’m more than delighted to be a part of it.”

Once Zuno was finally cast, the taping of his character began in May and debuted on air on June 21.

Zuno’s previous experience in front of the camera includes the Mexican melodramas “Al Diablo con los Guapos” and “Pasión.”

Additionally, Zuno engages his creative side through singing, and is currently working on his second album. His first single, “Cuando No Estás,” was released on Tuesday.

“The Bold and the Beautiful” began airing in 1987 and has won various awards, including the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series each year between 2009 and 2011. It also won the Guinness World Record “Most Popular Daytime TV Soap – Current,” the only soap opera to receive such an award.
