The widow of a banking executive slain in Puerto Rico has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the bank's CEO and other high-ranking officials.

Marisa Spagnoletti states in the lawsuit filed late last week that her husband was investigating allegations of fraud and improper transactions before he was killed in 2011.

Maurice Spagnoletti was an executive vice president at Puerto Rico's Doral Bank when he was repeatedly shot as he drove his Lexus on a San Juan highway.

Doral Financial Corporation issued a statement saying the lawsuit is false, frivolous and has no legal basis.

The FBI is still investigating the killing, which police said they believe was professionally orchestrated. No one has been arrested.
