A left-wing activist and performance artist who took criticism online after posting videos of herself defecating on flags – including Israel’s -- was sentenced by a Tel Aviv court Monday to two days of house arrest.
Natali Cohen Vaxberg was arrested by police on Sunday and was also banned from using the Internet for 30 days, according to The Jerusalem Post.
In one video, Cohen Vaxberg is shown defecating on an Israeli flag while the country’s national anthem plays in the background. In another video, entitled “S*** Instead of Blood,” Cohen Vaxberg is pictured defecating on flags from around the world, including the Koreas and the Palestinian Authority.
Posts criticizing the video went viral on social media.
Tel Aviv police told the Jerusalem Post that while authorities respect freedom of speech rights, the video could amount to causing damage to symbols of the state.
