The spokesman for international envoy Kofi Annan says the monitoring team for Syria has grown to a sixth of its authorized size and the peace plan for Syria remains "on track," despite incomplete compliance.

Ahmad Fawzi says there will be "around 50" observers on the ground by the end of Friday.

Fawzi told reporters in Geneva on Friday that the U.N. so far has obtained commitments from nations for 150 of the 300 observers that the U.N. Security Council authorized.

He said the observers are not being targeted, despite suicide blasts occurring near a hotel where some of them were staying.
