PARIS – The lawyer for a U.N. spokeswoman-turned-whistleblower says his client is still behind bars at the same prison complex as many of the war criminals she spent her career trying to expose.
Florence Hartmann was detained by guards outside the U.N. war crimes tribunal Thursday as the court convicted Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic of helping to organize atrocities during Bosnia's 1992-95 war.
Hartmann once served as a prosecutorial spokeswoman but later became a thorn in the tribunal's side after alleging the court had reached a secret accommodation with Serbia. The tribunal convicted her of contempt of court in 2009 for publishing confidential material.
Attorney Guenael Mettraux said Monday that Hartmann remains at Scheveningen prison, home to several notorious war criminals, and "is locked up until further notice."
