DAMASCUS, Syria – The United Nations humanitarian chief is discussing the humanitarian crisis caused by Syria's civil war during a two-day visit to Damascus.
Valerie Amos arrived in the Syrian capital Sunday for talks with officials.
Humanitarian conditions have declined across Syria during 22 months of conflict, which has displaced 2 million people and led to shortages of basic goods like flour and gasoline in many areas.
Addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos last week, Amos said the situation in Syria is "catastrophic and clearly getting worse."
The U.N. says more than 60,000 people have been killed since the start of the conflict in March 2011.
