A 17-year-old boy accused of planning a school attack inspired by the one at Colorado's Columbine High School in 1999 faces a retrial after a jury failed to reach a verdict.

The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, was accused of plotting a series of gun-and-bomb attacks on his former school and other local targets in Leicestershire in central England. He has been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome since his arrest in February and denies two counts of terrorism charges.

A jury of six men and six women were discharged Wednesday after they failed to reach a verdict following six days of deliberations. A hearing will take place Dec. 12 to set a date for the boy's retrial.
