UK police question suspect about fire on ferry to Amsterdam; no serious injuries reported

LONDON – British police are questioning a North Sea ferry passenger about a fire which forced the ship to return shortly after embarking from northern England.

Police said Sunday that two crew members and four passengers were taken off the ferry for treatment of smoke inhalation before it returned to Newcastle.

The ferry, carrying 946 passengers to Amsterdam, has sailed just 30 miles (50 kms) when the fire broke out at about 2300 GMT Saturday.
