A lawyer for a wanted Ugandan general says his client has requested British police protection and won't return home anytime soon.

Joseph Luzige said Sunday that Ugandan Gen. David Sejusa had been informed that Ugandan undercover agents were trying to locate him in London, where he is traveling.

Luzige said Sejusa believes his life is in danger. Sejusa, who was pivotal in the bush war that brought Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to power in 1986, recently wrote a letter to the internal security service urging an investigation into reports that those opposed to the rise of Museveni's son risk assassination. Details of the letter were published in a Kampala daily whose premises have since been occupied by police.

Uganda's army accused Sejusa of breaking military laws.
