Truck hits pedestrian walkway in Rio, causing it to collapse; No word on deaths, injuries

RIO DE JANEIRO – Police say a tall truck smashed into a pedestrian bridge on a busy Rio de Janeiro highway, causing the walkway to collapse.

Witnesses tell Globo TV Tuesday that there were two people on the bridge at the time.

Live television images show that the bridge fell on at least one car.

Police say they cannot yet confirm if there were any deaths or the number of injured.

The company that runs the toll road says the top of the truck hit the walkway.
