The front-runners campaigning to replace embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford accused him of embarrassing the city and ruining its reputation during the first televised debate of the election.

Olivia Chow and John Tory made no mention of incidents of drug use, drunken public appearances and erratic behavior that have given Ford international notoriety during the first part of the debate on Wednesday, but both said Ford has let the city down.

Chow says it's time to take down the circus tent at City Hall and says Ford has "become an international embarrassment." Tory told Ford he's disrespected the office of the mayor.

Ford has rebuffed pressure to resign since admitting to smoking crack cocaine last year. The election is Oct. 27.
