Three Charged In Attempted Murder Of CA Cop, Even Though They Didn't Pull Trigger

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Prosecutors say three men have been charged in California with the attempted murder of a policeman, even though they didn't pull the trigger.

Officer Gabriel Garcia, 31, was shot once in the head and remains in critical condition in a medical induced coma.

The San Bernardino County district attorney's office said Tuesday that the men were with the gunman and knew about the AK-47 he fired during the confrontation. They're also charged with possession of an assault rifle and could get life in prison if convicted.

Garcia and his rookie partner were approaching a group of people last Friday when one man opened fire with a handgun and the assault rifle.

After Garcia was hit, his partner killed the gunman, identified as Alex Alvarado.

On Monday evening, San Bernardino Police Chaplain Ray Miller led a prayer service with about 2,000 people at San Manuel Stadium for “Gabe’s healing, for his complete recovery,” the San Bernardino County Sun reported.

Miller said he was angered over the “cowardly” ambush that felled Garcia.

At one point during the service, Miller instructed the crowd to hold out their arms in the direction of Colton’s Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where Garcia is in a medically induced coma and shout “heal, Gabe!”
