An Afghan official says that at least two people have been killed in a suicide attack in Kabul.

The attack in the city's east early Tuesday happened outside the main gate of a compound housing foreigners, says Sediq Sediqqi, the spokesman for the Interior Ministry.

He says a small truck packed with explosives rammed the front gate of the compound. He says the dead were security guards.

The blast could be heard across the city soon after sunrise.

In the past week, suicide bombers have targeted the chief of police and a high-profile female parliamentarian.

NATO's International Security Assistance Force said that none of its personnel were injured in the attack.
