A would-be robber found one New Zealand eatery hard to digest after he pulled a gun on its steely owner who didn't flinch when staring at the barrel of the gun.
The Guardian reported that Said Ahmed tried to maintain his composure when confronted by the gunman. After seeing the gun, Ahmed continued to prepare a large order of chicken souvlaki for takeout and handed it to a paying customer who walked quickly out of the store.
“The man wanted to frighten me and I decided he couldn’t do that,” Ahmed told The Guardian. The store's video of the encounter shows Ahmed handing the customer the order, and turning to walk into the kitchen to call police.
“I told myself, ‘If he shoots me, at least my body will be further away and the gunshot won’t be as serious as shooting me at close range in my heart or head,” he said.
The armed suspect, who is seen on video observing Ahmed leave for the kitchen, then exits the store empty-handed.
Ahmed is originally from Egypt and has a degree in agricultural engineering. He moved to Christchurch 20 years ago.
