Sri Lanka reacts sharply to US plan for UN resolution, says it doesn't like external dictates

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka has hit out at the U.S. move to sponsor a third resolution at the United Nations human rights body criticizing its post-war reconciliation, saying it could further polarize the island nation.

Sri Lanka says it doesn't wish to be dictated to by the international community on internal affairs.

Sri Lanka's External Affairs Ministry made a statement Sunday a day after U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Nisha Biswal concluded a visit during which she informed authorities of her government's intentions to sponsor a resolution at the Human Rights Council's March session.

Biswal told reporters Saturday that Sri Lanka's lack of progress to ensure justice and reconciliation nearly five years after a bloody civil war has frustrated Washington.
